Most of the fear of a first class isn't the movement. It's the unknown — where to park, which door, whether you'll be spoken to, whether you can stop. So here is all of it, written down.
Parking
Park in the lot directly in front of the building. There is no permit, no meter and no code to remember. If the lot is full, street parking on the same block is free and unrestricted.
The door
One door, clearly marked with the arch. It is unlocked fifteen minutes before class. Walk in — you do not need to be buzzed, greeted, or checked against a list before you can sit down.
Where to put your things
Cubbies immediately to your left, shoes underneath. Take your phone in with you if leaving it makes you uneasy; nobody minds a phone face-down at the edge of a mat.
The room
Wood floor, low light, one wall of windows with linen shades. Mats are already down. Take any spot — the back row is a completely legitimate choice, and often the wiser one.
The first five minutes
You will be told your teacher's name and asked one question: whether you would like hands-on assistance, or not. Either answer is normal, and you can change it mid-class.
Leaving mid-class
You can leave the room at any time, for any reason, and no one will ask you why. Water and a bench are just outside the door. Come back in if you want to. Or don't.
What to wear
Anything you can breathe in and move in. No brand, no leggings requirement, no bare midriff. Socks stay on if you want them on.
